Name Of Kaurava And Pandava
In the story of Mahabharat, there were hundred Kauravas and five Pandavas, in fact there were 102 Kauravas, in which one sister and one maid had a son and the Pandavas also had another brother named Karna.
The ancestor of Kauravas was King Shantanu, who was first married to Ganga, whose child was Devavrata, who is known as Bhishma. Shantanu's second queen was Satyavati, the daughter of Matsya kingdom, due to whose ambition Devvrat had to take a vow in which he promised his stepmother that he would remain unmarried for life and would protect the throne of the kingdom but would never become a king. Due to this vow, Devavrata was named Bhishma and he was granted the boon of death by his father Shantanu, under which he had to accept that he could not give up his life until Dharma ruled the throne of Hastinapur. Therefore Bhishma protected the throne of Hastinapur for life.
Satyavati had a son, Vichitravirya, who was born to Ambe and Ambalika, whom Bhishma had brought from Swayambar. He had two sons, Dhritarashtra and Pandu. The Kauravas were the sons of Dhritarashtra and the Pandavas were the sons of Pandu.
Dhritarashtra's wife was Gandhari, from whom he had one and two children and one child was of a maid. Pandu had two wives, one Kunti and one Madri. Kunti had three sons and Madri had two.
