Shakuni was opponent to the Kauravas
In the Mahabharat, the biggest question that comes to our mind is whether Shakuni was not a benefactor of the Kauravas but was their opponent. Shakuni was the son of King Subala of Gandhara and brother of Gandhari. In relation, he was Duryodhana's maternal uncle. Shakuni was the biggest reason for the Mahabharat war. Shakuni was very knowledgeable and learned, he was a person of deep thinking and far-sighted. Shakuni used to support the Kauravas a lot during and before the Mahabharat war, they pretended to be their great benefactor and advisor. But Shakuni was not the well-wisher of the Kauravas but their opponents, in fact Shakuni wanted the end of Dhritarashtra and his dynasty. They wanted the Kauravas to end. Therefore Shakuni made the Pandavas fight the Kauravas, they already knew that the Kauravas would be defeated by the Pandavas.
There were two major reasons for Shakuni's enmity with Dhritarashtra and Kauravas. First his sister Gandhari was married to a blind man, Dhritarashtra. The Raja of Hastinapur defeated the Raja of Gandhar. Because of which Gandhari had to marry Dhritarashtra. Gandhari also did not want to see the world because of her husband being blind, and being a good wife, she blindfolded her. furthermore, pledged that she could never see him again. Shakuni was very angry with the sacrifice of his beloved sister, but he could not do anything at that time. Then he took a vow that he would avenge this insult, and since then Shakuni became the enemy of Kauravas.
Another reason for Shakuni's enmity was the insult of her father. In fact, before Gandhari's marriage, her father Subala was told by a pandit that after Gandhari's marriage, her first husband would die. Concerned about this, King Subala got her married to a goat, after that the goat was killed. In this manner Gandhari was a widow. This thing was known only to Subala and his close friends, everyone was instructed not to tell this thing to anyone. Shortly after this incident, Gandhari got married to Dhritarashtra, the prince of Hastinapur. Dhritarashtra and the Pandavas were unaware that Gandhari was the widow of a goat.
After some time this thing came in front of everyone. Dhritarashtra and Pandavas got very hurt on this matter and they felt that King Subala has cheated them, insulted them. To avenge his humiliation, Dhritarashtra imprisoned King Subala and his 100 sons. Dhritarashtra used to treat him very badly, he was beaten very badly. Dhritarashtra did not even respect his relationship with King Subala. The king and his family were given only a handful of rice every day, which they used to eat by sharing the mill. Days passed and one of the sons of King Subala died of starvation. Then King Subala started thinking that in this way he would not allow the end of his dynasty. Due to anger towards Dhritarashtra, Subala decided that they would all give up their share of food and give it to someone. So that one of them could live and become strong and avenge the humiliation suffered by all of them. Shakuni was the youngest of all those brothers, so Subala decided that everyone would give their food to Shakuni. Shakuni was opposed to this decision of his father, he was not seen to be tormenting his father and brothers in this way. But due to his father's order, he had to accept it. That is why Shakuni was not a benefactor of the Kauravas but their opponent.
Time passed and King Subala also became weak now. During this, he made a request to Dhritarashtra, he apologized to him and asked one of his sons to forgive Shakuni and get out of the jail. Dhritarashtra accepted this last wish of his father-in-law and brought Shakuni to Hastinapur. King Subala breathed his last with this. Due to which Shakuni became the enemy of Kauravas, but before dying, Subala told her son Shakuni to make such dices from her spine which would show the numbers according to her wish (the same dice Shakuni used in the game between Pandavas and Kauravas in which Yudhishthira loses his 4 brothers and wife Draupadi and Draupadi is ripped off. This game was the main reason for the Mahabharat war.) King Subala wanted these dices to be the reason for the end of Dhritarashtra and his dynasty and this is what happened. Shakuni The Mahabharat war was done with these dice. King Subala also made one leg of Shakuni unconscious so that he would always remember this word of his father. He would never forget the insult of his father and brothers.
Shakuni remained well-wisher of 100 Kauravas as per his father's promise. But in reality Shakuni was not a benefactor of Kauravas but his opponent. Shakuni took the Kauravas in her belief that they were their greatest benefactors. At the same time Shakuni always kept putting wrong things in their mind and giving wrong lessons. Shakuni knew that Kauravas did not like Pandavas, which they took advantage of. He used this thing to carry out his work. Shakuni was the biggest responsible of the Mahabharat that took place in Kuruchetra. He instigated Duryodhana against the Pandavas and sowed the wrong things. Shakuni was also a part of the Mahabharat war, he died at the hands of Kunti's son Sahadeva.
