Ved Vyas's mother's name was Satyavati. Satyavati was the daughter of Apsara Adrika. Adrika became a fish because of the curse and lived in the Yamuna river. The lord keeps the kid with him and tells his subjects that he is the sovereign of Chedi. Raja Vasu gives the girl to a fisherman named Matsya Gandhi. He raises her like his own daughter and names her Kali (as she is black in colour). With time Kali's name becomes Satyavati. Satyavati's father also used to sail the boat, Satyavati used to help her in her father's work. Satyavati grows up now and her father starts looking for suitable groom for her.

Once during the day, Satyavati meets sage Parashara and asks her to drop her to another place on the Yamuna river. Satyavati's father was busy in some other work, due to which Satyavati had to take the sage Muni across the Yamuna by boat. The sage Muni is fascinated by the form of Satyavati and urges them to have a relationship before marriage. But Satyavati refuses, saying that she is a Brahmin and Satyavati, the daughter of a minor fisherman, destroys the prestige of her clan. Will be found in Sage Muni does not listen to Satyavati, then Satyavati agrees to her because of fear of Sage Muni's curse but puts a condition in front of her. She tells him that no one should know about their relationship, they Never look at someone from the wrong point of view. And it also says that her son should be very famous and learned in the world. His knowledge should be discussed far and wide.

Sage Muni agrees to this and the life of Ved Vyas begins. Sage Muni and Satyavati have a son. The sage Muni leaves after this and promises that he will never meet Satyavati. Satyavati's son, with the austerity and blessings of the sage Muni, immediately grows up and becomes a tough young man. He promises his mother Satyavati that whenever she calls him, she will immediately come to him and fulfill her wish. At that time he was named Krishna. After this they go to the forest and get absorbed in penance. Later he was named Ved Vyas. Vyasa was the author of many Vedas and the great story Mahabharat. Somewhere because of Satyavati, she also plays the role of a character in the Mahabharat. After this Satyavati is married to King Shantanu of Hastinapur. By which they have two sons Chitrangada and Vichitravirya. Dhritarashtra and the Pandavas were the sons of Vichitravirya and the grandsons of Satyavati.
