Ayodhya Kanda
Ayodhya kand is the second part of the epic Ramayana composed by Maharishi Valmiki.
In which the idea of putting Lord Rama on the throne of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, preparations for the coronation of Rama, maid Manthara instigating Kaikeyi when Rama was made the crown prince, Kaikeyi's entry into Kopbhavan, King Dasharatha asking for Kaikeyi's boon, King Dasharatha. The death of King Dasaratha, mourning for his wife Sumitra, is described as the coronation of Bharata and the exile of Rama for 14 years.
Let us tell you that there are 119 cantos in Ayodhya kand of this epic and 4 thousand 2 hundred 86 verses have been included in this canto. This Kand should be recited for son birth, marriage and Gurudarshan.
Preparation for the coronation of Shri Ram
At the same time, now King Dasharatha had become old, with this he had got an idea of the supernatural talent of his eldest son Ram. So he wanted to put Rama on the throne of Ayodhya.
On the other hand, the entire subjects of Ayodhya city were also very happy with the work done by Shri Ram. Because Shri Ram was very benevolent and generous hearted. And the subjects wanted Lord Ram to sit on the throne of Ayodhya city.
For this, King Dasharatha had also ordered all his ministers to prepare for Rama's coronation. After which the preparations for Rama's coronation started in full swing.
Inciting Mata Kaikeyi by maid Manthara
At the same time, when King Dasharatha decided to make Rama the successor of Ayodhya. First Queen Kaikeyi was happy with this, but Kaikeyi's maid Manthara did not like it at all, she expressed displeasure on seeing Queen Kaikeyi happy on this matter. Then Queen Kaikeyi And then Manthara turned the intellect of Queen Kaikeyi.
Manthara asked Queen Kaikeyi to make her son Bharata the heir and advises what Queen Kaikeyi should do for this, then the maid Manthara said about the 2 promises given by King Dasharatha. After this Kaikeyi went to Kopbhavan on the advice of her maidservant.
Visiting Queen Kaikeyi's Kop Bhavan
At the behest of Manthara, Queen Kaikeyi started living in Kop Bhavan and gave up all food and water. On the other hand, King Dasharatha was very happy about the coronation of his son Rama and the whole palace was celebrating.
And King Dasharatha also wanted to share this happiness with his beloved Queen Kaikeyi, for this he goes to Kaikeyi's room but after going there he sees the condition of Queen Kaikeyi and asks about his concern, then Queen Kaikeyi will not answer any of his questions. When she doesn't, King Dasharatha informs her about Rama's decision to coronate her.
After which Queen Kaikeyi comes under the guise of Manthara and asks for two promises from King Dasharatha. Which King Dasharatha had asked many years ago to ask from Kaikeyi to save his life.
Queen Kaikeyi asks King Dasharatha to exile Rama for 14 years as a first promise and to place her son Bharata on the throne of Ayodhya as a second promise.
Hearing these two words of Kaikeyi, King Dasharatha was shocked and then while explaining to Kaikeyi spoke to reconsider these two words. And to withdraw these words, but Kaikeyi remained firm on his point.
14 years of exile for Shri Ram
King Dasaratha was very hurt after hearing both the words of Queen Kaikeyi. He refuses to accept both the words of Queen Kaikeyi but Queen Kaikeyi says that – It is the custom of Raghukul that the life should not be lost. aAnd you can take your own life. Can't go back on words.
In this way, King Dasharatha has to obey the words of Queen Kaikeyi even if he does not want to. After this he handed over the throne to Bharata and asked Lord Rama to go to exile for 14 years. On the other hand, Lord Rama was Maryada Purushottam.
So they agree to go to exile in order to protect Raghukul's custom and obey their parents' orders. At the same time, when Mother Sita and her brother Lakshman came to know about going to exile, they also requested Rama to go to exile.
At first Shri Ram refused to take Mother Sita to the forest. Then Sita told Lord Ram that the forest you will go to is my Ayodhya and without you Ayodhya is like hell for me.
After which he agreed to take Sita with him and later allowed Lakshmana to take him to the forest as well. In this way Lord Rama, Mother Sita and Lakshmana all set out for their 14 years of exile.
The life of King Dasharatha came out in separation
King Dasharatha was very much attached to Rama and his separation was troubling him in his mind. He could not bear this separation. And after some time he gave up his life in the separation of his son.
During this, Bharat had gone to his maternal uncle's place, when he heard about this incident. After which he became very angry with his mother Kaikeyi and abandoned his mother.
Bharata was deeply saddened by his mother's actions and refused to sit on the throne of Ayodhya. And went to find his brother Ram in the forest to bring him to Ayodhya. And then going into the forest, he met his beloved brothers Ram-Lakshmana and Sita and urged them to return to Ayodhya.
But then Rama, following his father's words, refused to return to Ayodhya.
After which Bharata returned to Ayodhya carrying Lord Rama's footpad with him and he placed Rama's footpad on the throne of Ayodhya. And Bharata spoke to his courtiers till the Lord returned from exile.
